Antonia join(ed) BearingPoint

We know she's great about celebrating our successes, but Antonia's too humble to toot her own horn. That's Dave's role... :-) Here are some excerpts from a recent email Antonia sent. Drop her a line to wish her a belated congratulations!

bearingpoint.gifAs most of you know, I recently took a job at Sr. Manager for BearingPoint's Strategy, Process, and Transformation practice. I'm responsible for the Western region: sales, delivery, and practice growth.

What that means:

Transformation: helping companies take their business strategies, define the business model and organization structure to support that strategy, and developing execution plans to implement the strategy (i.e. we implement strategies from McKinsey and Bain, among others)

Strategic Change: Change management for ERP solutions - this includes communications, training, stakeholder management, performance metrics, leadership alignment

Dr. Mike gives up his pager

From Dr. Mike:

Imbued with all the confidence that our newly printed diplomas conferred, which, if the elegant Columbia document is any indicator, ain’t much, I just recently severed the cord and separated from my medical group. For the first time since 1984 I no longer own a pager and I am now self-employed. I will be primarily working on an entrepreneurial dream but expect to perform some contract work along the way.

Pinger is hiring!

From Elliot:

Right before graduation VoiceVault (now knows as "Pinger") closed a Series "A" round of funding with Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers.

pinger.jpgThroughout the BCEMBA program I served as co founder of VoiceVault and dedicated my efforts to managing the initial technology development, fundraising process, structuring of the company, and other strategic aspects.

While I am not currently involved in the day to day operations of the company, I am a shareholder and a huge advocate of their work. This will be a very exciting company for anyone passionate about communications technology to be involved with. The management team is amazing.

VoiceVault was originally conceived of (and work shopped as a Strategy project in Tiffany's class) as a communications technology platform that helps solve the problems associated with disparate, unsorted, and unmanageable voicemail recordings. Now the company has picked up significant momentum and has expanded their vision and value proposition.

"Pinger is an early stage startup with a mission to help people communicate with their voice in new and remarkably convenient ways. The management team comes from successful consumer facing companies such as Virgin, Yahoo, Palm, Handspring, and Creative Labs. Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers exclusively funded the company.

Pinger is in pre launch mode and is hiring. For more information visit www.pinger.com

A big thanks to my group (Lali, Eli, Phil) as well as the numerous classmates I consulted for legal, strategic and psychological counseling as the deal was closing…… AND to Dallis for allowing me the space to make two significant investments in the same 18month period!

Brad joins StarMine...odds on a private bus by 2010?

Congratulations to Brad on his new gig. Guess we shouldn't knock public transportation... it's no private jet or Porsche, but ridership has its benefits...

Forget about networking events: MUNI rocks.

Even though I really did not take advantage of many of the networking events, my strategy of accosting people for jobs at Muni bus-stops has paid off. On February 23, I started my new gig as a Product Manager at a little company called StarMine.

sm_logo_30.gifYou could say that this is the perfect company for me; Lots of Excel (ok, not that much Excel, but a little), Finance, Statistics, Data and Product Management. Everything I ever wanted.

Basically, what the company does is rate/rank equity analysts on their ability to estimate financials and recommend stocks (yes, they have the patent on this). They then take that data and create a weighted average estimate for the financials, thus radically improving the un-weighted "consensus" typically used by investors. I could get really "quanty" on you, but let's just say it works (Information Coefficient of 0.05) and people buy it.

They are a private company, 100% revenue growth rate (accelerating) and very cash flow positive (web subscription model). And yes, I did ask for the term-sheet; and got it.

Needless to say, I am very excited about the job. And seriously, it did come out of talking to a guy at a bus-stop.

2:1 odds on a jet by 2010

gulfstream450.jpgKevin just announced his new gig and moved the line on the over/under for a BCEMBA '06 jet to 2010.

From Kevin: "January 31 was my last day at JPMorgan. After more than seven years in private equity, venture capital, and investment banking, I am leaving to start a hedge fund. I am enthusiastic about this new opportunity."

I met with the NetJets and Marquis Jets sales directors last week for Helium Report. At $4,000 an hour, the service is a bit rich for me, but given the piles of money earned last year on Wall Street, it probably won't be long before we're asking for rides to Columbia reunion events on Kevin's Gulfstream.

After the Google guys made their first billion, they bought a 767. Maybe Kevin will just acquire the entire BravoJet fleet.

Little Suri

From Karthik:

ok, in the spirit of being inspired by people you admire i have two of our classmates to thank.

firstly, i am following the coat-tail of "the Deaner" into Barclays Global Investors but in an operations capacity. Jeff was very helpful in helping me prep. Now he is stuck with me as a colleague! I start with BGI end of this month, and am excited about the opportunity. Goodbye GE.

My second role model is Jamie Cheng. It all started when I saw the ultrasound picture he had posted on the bcmba site. It looked so cute that I left my office with rejuvenated enthusiasm and yada yada yada, Priya is 14 weeks pregnant now. We are expecting the baby in August. (ok, even Ed can fugure out that the math does not work here, considering Jamie posted his ultrasound the end of December, but you get the point...)
