Nth Power

From Travis:

Nth Power, Inc. is the name of my little consultancy. My clients include some hedge and mutual funds who invest in the software space. I spend most of my day synthesizing data from a number of sources into a (hopefully) coherent investable picture. Eventually I will have a blog where I publish my thoughts on software and the capital markets that anyone can drop by to visit.

2:1 odds on a jet by 2010

gulfstream450.jpgKevin just announced his new gig and moved the line on the over/under for a BCEMBA '06 jet to 2010.

From Kevin: "January 31 was my last day at JPMorgan. After more than seven years in private equity, venture capital, and investment banking, I am leaving to start a hedge fund. I am enthusiastic about this new opportunity."

I met with the NetJets and Marquis Jets sales directors last week for Helium Report. At $4,000 an hour, the service is a bit rich for me, but given the piles of money earned last year on Wall Street, it probably won't be long before we're asking for rides to Columbia reunion events on Kevin's Gulfstream.

After the Google guys made their first billion, they bought a 767. Maybe Kevin will just acquire the entire BravoJet fleet.

Little Suri

From Karthik:

ok, in the spirit of being inspired by people you admire i have two of our classmates to thank.

firstly, i am following the coat-tail of "the Deaner" into Barclays Global Investors but in an operations capacity. Jeff was very helpful in helping me prep. Now he is stuck with me as a colleague! I start with BGI end of this month, and am excited about the opportunity. Goodbye GE.

My second role model is Jamie Cheng. It all started when I saw the ultrasound picture he had posted on the bcmba site. It looked so cute that I left my office with rejuvenated enthusiasm and yada yada yada, Priya is 14 weeks pregnant now. We are expecting the baby in August. (ok, even Ed can fugure out that the math does not work here, considering Jamie posted his ultrasound the end of December, but you get the point...)

Lair of the Golden Bear

From Rick:

One of the really great things we've done as an annual family tradition is to attend the Lair of the Golden Bair (aka Cal Camp). We've gone to Camp Gold, week 2 for 11 years straight and have made some great friends that we get to see every year. It's up in the Sierras right down the road from the Dodge Ridge ski resort in Pinecrest, CA. It's basically run by college-age 'staffers' who do a great job at providing a wholesome family-based experience including arts & crafts, stage plays, lectures, hiking, biking, swimming, and a great sports program of volleyball, tennis, basketball and the big softball competition of camp blue vs. camp gold (Gold rules!). It's just a great and relaxing vacation for the whole family.

To go you need to be a member of the alumni association - something everyone should do anyway. February is the month to sign up. Check out their website for more details.
